OMG, I'm playing a console... and loving it!

Sooo....

Mrs. Thork and myself got "our kids" a Nintendo Wii for Christmas.  After a truley epic RL quest to actually get to buy the damned thing without paying $700 bucks on Ebay (more detail on this in our last podcast), we brought the system home a few days before Christmas.  After the kids had gone to bed we just HAD to unpack it to "test" it out lol...  Well all we had was "Wii Sports" and man was it cool.  We were breaking the box out every night after the kids went to bed and playing it for hours and hours.  Well before Christmas morning we went out and bought "Boogie", "Wii Play", "Mario Gallaxies", and  "Zelda- Twilight Princess".  Zelda is by far our favorite at the moment.  It's an awesome mix of new gaming technology (utilizing the Wii's remote and nunchuck to the point that you must actually swipe your sword and use the other had to control your shield movements), and nostaljia where we have to run around in dungeons looking for maps, compasses, and boss keys lol.  It really draws you into the game.

Mrs. Thork (who is definatley NOT a gamer at all) is actually logging 8+ hours a day on the thing now rofl, and if she's not playing, she reading up on the guides from the internet!!!  My 8 year old son, 3 year old daughter, and myself all get on "Wii Sports" and bowl against each other, going golfing, or play baseball; each using our own "Mii's" who are basically cartoonish avatars, who not only look like us and have our names, but keep our stats from each game we play.  What else is cool is that I just found out that I can take my remote over to my buddy's house and my "Mii" charater will come with me via my remote.  How cool would that have been if we had this kind of shit when we were kids, right?

Anyways,  I have always been an avid "anti-console" dude, but I just had to write about how Nintendo's Wii is quickly changing my mind.  I havn't had this much fun on any gaming platform in a very long time.  The funny part is that the Wii's graphics are not that great, but the intuitivness of the controls, and fluiditiy of the whole system is truley awesome.  I mean hell, my 3 year old kicks our butts sometimes in bowling lol...  I just wanted to let you all know that if you havn't tried the Wii, you need to.  I havn't found anything that has kept me from logging into WoW (game wise) for a long time and just wanted to share...

I got my Wii for xmas last year. You all thought I was busy taking care of my one year old! hahaha! silly rabbits, I've been on the Wii all this time. Zelda was awesome, however, my nephew suckered me into giving it to him before I got to complete it. Stupid puppy dog eyes!

Just got Mario Galaxies for christmas and some of that shit is hard. My nephew just got Mario and Sonic Olymics, so I might have to steal that for a few days.

Now I just need to figure out how to kick my husband off Rock Band so I can get some game time. The ps3 might need to move to another room.

i own a wii also.
i sat at target at 4am to get one...
and my parents play it as much or more than i do.
neither of which has ever played a video game before.
when they have friends over, the thing never gets shut off... im just waiting for one of them to pull a muscle or something...
my dad is going on 50 is was never in the military or did much activity wise so pulling a muscle for him is a major possibility

LOL...long time no....nuthin!

Nice to see you expanding your horizons Thork. I have all the next gens now, and I have been spending a lot of time on them...after the kids are in bed. Most of my time is spent playing Rock Band. I've all but given up MMOs since they take up way too much time. I quit playing WoW about 6 months ago. Sold the account (70 Druid, 70 Rogue, 70 Warlock) for a fair amount and haven't looked back.

I play consoles since I can pretty much pause whenever the wife beckons...and she beckons a lot. :)
