[Chapter Nine: TeamSpeak and Guild Chat]

Fist of the Empire utilizes TeamSpeak (VoIP) and OpenFire (Chat) for cross platform communication methods within the guild. The combination of these software tools enables the guild to have multiple facets of communication enabling collaboration and effective communication within the guild.

TeamSpeak: TeamSpeak is the guilds primary method of communication and is mandatory when asking for help or participating in raids. TeamSpeak enables the guild to communicate more effectively and be more agile.

“TeamSpeak is a quality, scalable application which enables people to speak with one another over the Internet. TeamSpeak consists of both client and server software. The server acts as a host to multiple client connections, capable of handling literally thousands of simultaneous users.” [teamspeak.com]

All PRs and Members are expected to utilize TeamSpeak (TS). TS is free to download [http://www.teamspeak.com] and the client is cross platform compatible. Fist of the Empire runs several TS servers for communication, the primary TS server is fistoftheempire.com:8767.

How to Connect: When joining the guild you will be invited to the server for your PR interview. At that time you will be asked to register with the server. This is done by clicking on (something here) then selecting to register with server. You will be prompted for a username and password. Once you have registered, disconnect from the server and input the values into the connection field. Note, you may have to right click on connections to add a permanent connection for your client.

The Lobby of the TeamSpeak server is utilized for general chatter and is a great place for getting to meet other members in the guild. Each MSC has their own channels for conducting in-game operations without disturbing the rest of the guild.

TeamSpeak Considerations:
Any member or PR utilizing the FoE TS must be registered on the site and on TS. Additionally, if they bring any friends or allied guilds on TS, they must get their friends registered. Any unregistered members will be dropped from the TS if they have not registered within a reasonable time.

FoE follows a strict naming and tag convention for TeamSpeak. Primarily, members will have “” and PRs will have “” to the right of their name. Failure to do so exemplifies a lack of attention to detail and shows poorly on the members discipline. If there are any questions about Tagging, please ask the S1 or immediate supervisor in the Support Chain. More examples are:

All leadership with a current PoR are allowed to have Server Admin. Ranked members who are not in a PoR will have their Server Admin removed.

Guild Chat: Fist of the Empire employs the jabber (XMPP) based client Openfire as our Universal Guild Chat (UGC). The FoE UGC can be accessed from the web, phone, and in-game with the use of PlayXpert Overlay (PxP). Only authorized persons are allowed on the UGC. Members and PRs will have separate privileges based on the rooms they occupy. This means members will be able to connect to member chat and PR chat while PRs are only allowed in the PR channel.

How to Connect: There are several ways to connect to the FoE UGC. The best way to connect is to download the FoE chat client from the website in “downloads” section. Once you have download the client, register with the server by clicking on “Accounts” then putting in your username (the name you are recognized by in FoE), password (confirm password), and the server (fistoftheempire.com). Finally hit ‘Create Account” and your account will be created.

Before logging in, there are options for Save Password and Auto Login; however this is discouraged if you use a public or communal computer.

Once you are logged in, the chat admin will have to add you to your specific group (PR, Member, etc) in order to view the roster of members and PRs.

There are two primary chat channels, FoE PR, and Guild Chat. FoE PR is for all recruits to socialized and interact with members. Guild Chat is for members only discussion. Each MSC has their own chat and designed for all personnel PR and member to communicate in. All members in Chat must either have “” or “” by there name as per the TeamSpeak standard. Failure to do so will get you kicked quickly.
